Bogota, hemos llegado

Greetings from South America! After a year of dreaming, months of preparing, weeks of packing, marrying each other, selling cars, storing crap, long, short, sad and sweet goodbyes – we have arrived in Bogota.

Spirit airlines is interesting. I didn’t really miss having a seat that didn’t recline, which was surprising. We enjoyed our Gin and tonics, and fought to get some sleep flying into Ft. Lauderdale. mostly in vain.

Ft. Lauderdale airport sucks. Bad. The flight from Denver was 3.5 sleepless hours starting at midnight, and with the time zone shift, we found ourselves with a 5 hour layover at 5 am in an airport that has no interest in you catching any Z’s.

We did manage to sleep during most of the flight into Bogota. This is great because the last week has been painfully busy and mostly sleepless. Alas, we missed seeing Cuba from above as well as some of the Caribbean blues.

So far we’ve seen very little of Bogota. We ate arepa sat the aeropuerto, got gouged on the taxi ride (my fault), and went straight into the “candelaria” and to our very decent hostel, the Hostel Chocolate. So named because of a Colombian tradition of hot chocolate and bread as a snack, provided. Tomorrow will bring some bright eyes and a hunger for the city around us, but for now we will rest.

Thanks again Josh and Mandy for the last minute help!
